Shipston Home Nursing was founded in June 1997 through an idea from a District Nurse in Shipston called Charlie Wells. Charlie’s sister died of cancer in May 1992 and was able to remain at home until her death because of the support she received through her amazing family and friends.
From this experience, Charlie realised the enormous need for a “Hospice at Home” service to cover our local community. With the help of local doctors from the Medical Centre at Shipston, local business people and friends, Shipston Home Nursing was born.
A board of Trustees was then created, a Treasurer was appointed and a £50,000 fundraising target was set for the first year.
We work within a specifically defined area covering Shipston on Stour, Wellesbourne, Kineton and the surrounding villages, looking after people with incurable illnesses who wish to be nursed at home. Our service is run by a team of qualified Registered General Nurses specialising in palliative care, supported by a team of Health Care Assistants.
Our approach is very much focused on looking after the the patient, their family and those important to them for the time required by each patient, who wishes to remain in their own home.
Our care services are provided free of charge thanks to the incredible generosity of our supporters, donors and the support we receive at the community events we organise. All of this is only possible thanks to the efforts of our fundraising volunteers who generously give their time and energy. In addition we currently receive a modest grant from the NHS which funds around 8% of our annual running costs.
Your donations are gratefully received to ensure the ongoing development and sustainability of this valuable community service.
