Our Care

Palliative and end of life care within our community

Shipston Home Nursing provides palliative and end of life care to support you, your family and loved ones in your own home so that you can enjoy your time together as much as possible.

Our care is provided by a team of registered nurses and healthcare assistants who will visit you at home. We conduct visits every day, including weekends, and can be contacted 24 hours a day should you need urgent advice outside normal hours.

Typically most of our care is needed in the last two months of life but we encourage you to contact us as early as you are comfortable with so we can understand your needs and wishes and plan our support to help improve your quality of life.

Did you know...?

Shipston Home Nursing is almost entirely funded through charitable grants and donations so that we can provide end of life care completely free of charge in our local communities.

Our Services

Symptom management and pain relief

Our nurses will work with your GP to assess and manage pain and administer prescribed medication as needed. Our nurses will talk through all the different options for pain relief and can help with choosing the right medication to suit your needs.

Often GP’s prescribe medication for symptom control with a range rather than a specific dose and our experienced nurses can adjust the dose appropriately to manage your symptoms.

Personal Care

This includes help with washing and dressing, and toileting needs, as well as changing sheets. This care is typically provided in the last two months of life depending on your situation and the support you need.

Respite for family and carers

We will come and sit with you during the day or overnight so your family can rest. Although it can be hard to persuade family members to take a break, we find this support is important in helping you all have the energy to enjoy your time together.

We encourage family members and carers to use these respite sits to rest or take some time away from the house.

Practical Support

We can help put you in touch with services that can support you with practical assistance such as household cleaning or financial support if needed. We can also suggest any equipment we feel would be of benefit such as a hospital bed or walking aids and we can liaise with the district nurses, occupational therapists and physiotherapists on your behalf. It will normally be the district nurse that arranges for the equipment to be supplied by the NHS.

Emotional support and counselling

We are here to support the whole family and offer counselling for patients and families. Counselling is also available to people that have experienced loss even if their loved one was not cared for by Shipston Home Nursing.

24-hour care

Our nursing team is available every day including weekends. We provide day and night-time care on any day of the week, depending on your needs.

We have a 24-hour phone line so you can always speak to one of our nurses if you need our help.

We also work with the NHS Rapid Response Team which provides an urgent advice and call out service from 8pm to 8am.
